Intro to the Lab
- The Multi-Purpose Multi-Media Language Lab at Bunker Hill Community College provides students a high-tech learning environment along with a knowledgeable tutoring staff to guide them with any aspect of language learning from speaking, listening, and pronunciation, to reading, writing, grammar, and punctuation.
What the Lab is trying to accomplish
- The lab’s objective is to help all students improve their language skills, whatever they may be. In addition to software and tutoring, the lab offers many additional services including grammar workshops and practice exit test writing.
Resources
- The lab currently provides students with 10 language learning software programs, 12 support staff members, and 35 partitioned workstations. Many of our staff members speak other languages including French, Spanish, and Italian.
Services
Foreign Language Audio/Video Files
- Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Arabic, and German files are available for students, and focus on grammar and speaking and listening skills.
Free Grammar/Software Workshops
- Every semester, lab staff members provide free workshops focusing on grammar, Microsoft Word, lab overviews, and new software programs. Sign-up information is available in the lab or online.
ENG 095/111 and ESL 079/89/99 Practice Exams
- The Lab offers ENG 095/111 and ESL 079/89/99 students the opportunity to take practice exit exams. We provide the readings, administer the exam, and evaluate and provide feedback to each student.
Timed/Un-timed One-on-One Scheduled Tutoring
- Students who come to the lab can meet with our in-house tutors and spend as much time as they need to review their work. Please note, this service is based on staff availability.
Foreign Language Tutoring
- Many of our staff members speak languages other than English. They are willing to help any student who is currently enrolled in a BHCC foreign language course. For more info, please contact the lab.
Classroom/Faculty Workshops
- These workshops will provide faculty members and faculty classes the opportunity to become more familiar with the software programs and resources offered in the lab. Faculty members are encouraged to schedule in-class workshops. Please contact us to make an appointment.
Website Resource List
- BHCC faculty and staff have collected thousands of websites which focus on English speaking and listening, reading and writing, grammar, punctuation, pronunciation, MLA style, and much more. The website address is www.bhcc.mass.edu/lLanguageLab.
